Godzilla and Nuclear Power / ゴジラと原子力発電

More than three months has passed from the sadly earthquake in Eastern Japan. I hope these people who is still working in frontline of nuclear power plants in Fukushima and living in shelters, will get a day they feel peacefull and stable very soon.

I twittered on March, 31st that:

Nuclear reactor, smoking or car, these are all dangerous. But different kind of fear. Radiation had made a movie GODZILLA, others hadn't. It's a completely different kind of fear.
(In the movie Godzilla who had been sleeping in deep seabed was awakened by huge impact and energy of nuclear testing)

But I didn't think in particular why Godzilla came out here or symbol of what Godzilla is. Even I asked myself, I don’t think I could answer it.
A few days later, I found a clue in Shinichi Nakazawa's essay titled "Great transformation of Japan vol.1" on June issue of the SUBARU Magagine at Kinokuniya Bookstore in Midtown.
He wrote:

Natural disasters such as earthquake and tsunami, destroy the ecosystem of plants and animals and minerals as well as people living there and their houses.
But after earthquake and tsunami leaving, pople start work to restore the original order of the ecosystem. Plants sprout again. People also build a house remake the city. Indeed Japanese has repeated it in the long history.
However, once a serious accident occurs in nuclear power plant and radioactive material is scattered around, the organism's exist becomes difficult to survive there for many years. People go into the contaminated area must wear a protective suit. There already had become outside of ecosphere.
Why? Because nuclear power itself is a technology that extract the energy from the material phenomenon belong to outside of the ecosphere.
But earthquake and tsunami cause vibrations that occur just beneath the crust of the biosphere, so the ecosphere itself can continue to force their own ecosystem restoration of damages.
In contrast, our biosphere dosen’t have such ability that will heal the impact from substance phenomenon of outside ecosphere, more precisely it called that wrap the earth, too.

In other words, the sun is making an enormous amount of energy from the nuclear fusion, so we may say nuclear power is very small sun.
However, human ecosphere on earth and the sun are mediated by a large distance and time. That’s the reason people can benefit their energy.
But general nuclear power plants are just mediated by several layers of 10 inches thick steel plate at best and 6 feet thickness of the concrete at most.
After he expected objections that if we perfect it’s Intermediary, nuclear energy will be a dream energy, he continues:

System of thought made by incorporating "Outside" which originally doesn’t belong to the biosphere into "Inside of thought "; It is none other than "Monotheism". Monotheism is the counterpart of nuclear technology in religious thought which is an achievement of "Seventh Energy Revolution".
Before the advent of monotheism, so to speak the gods used to belong to the biosphere of thought.
In the biosphere of thought, the gods can easily perform the transformation to another existence,because everything leads to wholeness, and there is no isolated existence at all.
In this way, many gods were born, such as god with eagle head, god in dog shape and god of oak tree.
Monotheism had brought "Outside" into biosphere, where it had not existed before.

It should be noted here that a simple choice of monotheism or earlier gods is not important, the key of idea is in front of the transcendental things wheather it’s religion or nuclear power, the ecological stability of the mind and body will be destroyed unless they wear protective clothing in body and mind. Transcendent things may become force and violence.
And then, he insists another very important point.

Capitalism that incorporates atomic "furnace" with the support of computer development, continues to expand on a global scale.
Capitalism is a system that must continue to grow, or stop going to decline. (So is the nuclear reactor).
For a system that can sustain growth, global capitalism will require mass production and mass consumption.
It destroys the ecological balance.
Everywhere in a society, people make a connection to others with concrete human mind.
Through a variety of circuits, a society will try to achieve the direction to maintain mind connection between people.
Between individual and collective, when the exchange occurs, a person hands a thing shall be exchanged and "YHEN=connection as human being" as well to the opponent.
Therein is always something beyond value calculation is added.
Then this exchange will take on the characteristics of a gift.
Market system is running on a completely different principle.
The product brought into market is the product; so-called, "MUYHEN= disconnected from human being".
The product which already became merchandise is the objects just waiting to be exchanged.
For this system (Capitalist or Market principles) that works on economic rationality, a society that create the best connection between humans is like a noise which interferes the progress of the game.
This activity including the biosphere's life with the eerie variation of ocean floor plate has been ignored as externality.
A fission "reactor" that is the real externality for the biosphere has been installed as a "reactor" that continues to supply vast energy constantly Inside of an autistic systems that has no exit=connection into externality.
What a paradox!

By adding my opinion on this, to refrain from buying the thing which is not necessary in particular, in other words, which will become a trash in the very near future is that they actively oppose the violence of capitalism that force to buy and buy forever, and also this is the right method to save energy.
So, the use of renewable energy in order to produce future waste is a contradiction and doesn’t make sense.
As a little aside, in New York City about 20 years ago, it’s a kind of pain in the neck that GE made light bulbs have too short life. I couldn’t accept this fact that the country had sent a human being to the moon already even can’t make one longlife light bulb.
And years later, I finally realized that GE is doing it on purpose and capitalism must do anything to keep their system.
At the end, Mr. Nakazawa has concluded that:

What on earth has been destroyed in our world. Society has been destroyed. Biosphere has been destroyed. And "civilization" that built at the Biosphere associated with society, has been destroyed.
Especially, Japanese civilization has more character than a western civilization as "civilized biosphere" that is built on the basic structure of rich inter exchange between people and nature or people and people.
Now, this Japanese civilization is facing to a serious crisis than ever.
Tsunamis and nuclear disaster has exposed the major contradiction under the light of day that we have been holding longtime by the intense fact we had never expected.
Japanese civilization is about to collapse in "Energology" which is coined word by Mr. Nakazawa, and means ontology of energy.
This crisis have already exceeded the level which can be fixed or recovered by hard work.

I believe that even a personal blog still have something to do with this, so I will continue posting.

大震災から3ヶ月以上たった。原子力発電所の現場で作業をしている人や、避難所生活を送っている人に早く心身の安定する日が来ることを願います。

私は3月31日のTWITTERで、

原発とタバコや車の危険性を単純に同列には比べられない。放射能はゴジラという映画を生んだ。タバコや車からそんな映画は作られていない。恐怖の質が違うのだ、量ではなく。

と書いた。でもゴジラが何でここで出てきたのか、何を象徴しているかは特に考えなかったし、考えても分からなかっただろう。
で、その何日か後、ミッドタウンの紀伊国屋書店でたまたま手に取った「すばる6月号」中沢新一氏の「日本の大転換（上）」という記事にその手掛かりを見つけることが出来た。彼はこう書いている。

地震や津波などの自然災害は、そこで暮らす人間や家だけでなく動物や植物や鉱物の生態系の秩序をまるごと飲み込んで破壊する。しかし揺れが収まり津波がさった後、もとの生態系の秩序を回復する活動を開始する。植物は再び芽生えてくる。人はまた家を作り町を作り直す。実際日本人は長い歴史の中でそれを繰り返してきた。
ところが原子力発電所で重大な事故が起こり放射性物質ががあたりにばらまかれると、生物は何年もの間そこで生存することが困難になる。人は防護服を身に付けなければ汚染地帯に入って行けない。そこは人間にとっての生態圏ではなくなってしまったのだ。
なぜか。それは原子力発電そのものが、生態圏の外部に属する物質現象から、エネルギーを取り出そうとする技術であることに、原因がある。地震と津波は、生態圏の直下で起こる地殻の振動に原因しているから、それによって生態圏の受ける損傷は、生態圏みずからの力で修復していくことができる。ところが、生態圏の外部、もっと正確に言えば、地球をも包み込む＜太陽圏＞の物質現象が生態圏に及ぼしたものの影響を、長い時間をかけてでも癒していく能力を、私たちの生態圏はもっていないのである。

つまり、太陽は核融合でその膨大なエネルギーを作っているから、原子力発電は言わば非常に小さい太陽と言える。しかし太陽と地球上の人間の生態圏は膨大な距離と時間で媒介されているので、人間はそのエネルギーを享受できる。しかし原子力発電所は何層かの、せいぜい20ｃｍの厚さの鉄板とそれを囲む高々2ｍの厚さのコンクリートで媒介されているだけなのだ。
ならばその媒介を完璧にすれば原子力発電はまさに夢のエネルギー源だという反論を予想したように彼はこう続ける。

ほんらい生態圏には属さない「外部」を、思考の「内部」に取り込んでつくられた思考のシステム、それはほかならぬ一神教（モノテイズム）である。「第七次エネルギー革命」の産物である原子力技術の、宗教思想における対応物が一神教なのである。
一神教が出現する以前には、神々はいわば思考の生態圏に所属していた。思考の生態圏では、すべてが全体性につながり、孤立した存在はそこにはいないために、神々はいともたやすくトランスフォーメーションをおこなって、別の存在に変化していくことができる。こうして、鷲の頭をした神や、犬の姿をした神や、オークの樹の神など、さまざまな神々が生まれていった。
一神教はその生態圏に、ほんらいはそこに所属しないはずの＜外部＞を持ち込んだのである。そんな神を前にしたら、生身の人間は心に防護服でも着装しないかぎりは、心の生態系の安定を壊されてしまうだろう。

ここで注意すべきなのは、一神教かそれ以前の神かの単純な選択ではなく、人間の前に無媒介に現れた超越的なものの前では、それが宗教であれ原子力発電であれ生身の人間は心や体に防護服でも着装しないかぎりは、心身の生態系の安定を壊されてしまう、という考え方が大事なのだ。超越的なものは強制であり、暴力である。
そうしてもう一つとても重要な指摘がなされている。

原子の「炉」を組み込んだ資本主義は、コンピューターの発達にも助けられて、グローバルな規模での拡大を続けている。その資本主義は成長を続けなければ、衰退ないし停止に向かうシステムである(原子炉とよく似ている）。成長を持続できるシステムであるために、資本主義は大量生産と大量消費を世界に要求する。それが生態系のバランスを破壊する。
社会というのはどこでも、具体的な人間の心のつながりでできている。さまざまな回路をとおして、人間同士の心のつながりを維持しようという方向に、社会は働きをおこなおうとする。
個人や集団の間で、なにかの交換がおこなわれるときにも、交換されるモノと所有者との縁（つながり）まで、モノといっしょに相手に手渡されていくから、そこにはかならず価値計算のできない「＋α」の要素が組み込まれる。そのとき交換は贈与の性格を帯びるようになる。
市場はまったく異なる原理で動くシステムである。市場へ持ち込まれた商品は、いったんすべての「縁」を断ち切られて、いわば「無縁」となった品々である。そうなると商品となった品物は、交換されるのを待つただのモノとなる。
経済合理性で動くこのシステム（資本主義・市場主義）にとっては、人間同士のつながりをつくりだそうとする社会などは、ゲームの進行に妨害を加える雑音のようなものである・・・生態圏の生命を含んだ運動は、海底プレートの不気味な変動も含めて、すべては外部性として無視されてきたのである。
外部性への回路を失ったその自閉システムの内部に、莫大なエネルギーをたえまなく供給し続ける「炉」として、生態圏にとっては本物の外部性である核分裂の「炉」が設置されているのである。市場という外部のないシステムが、生態圏の内部に生まれた。
なんというパラドックスだろう！

これに私の意見を付け加えると、特に必要でもない物や事、つまりちょっと先の未来のゴミを買うことを控えることは、買え買えという資本主義の強制=暴力に積極的に反対する事であり、正しい節電法でもある。その節電が原子力発電を不要にするかも知れない。誰でも机の引き出しに処分に困ったケータイが２個や３個あるはずだ。
また逆に見ると、原子力発電のエネルギーが減ったら、その分、未来のゴミを作らなければ良い。だから未来のゴミの生産にに再生可能エネルギーを使うのは意味を成さない矛盾した事だ。
ちょっと余談になるが、２０年くらい前のニューヨークのアパートはみんな、ＧＥ製の裸電球でそれがよく切れること。これが人間を月に送り込んだ国の製品とは到底思えなかった。それは故意であり、極端に言えば資本主義は自分が生き延びるためには何でもやるという事を知ったのは、ずいぶん後になっての事だ。
そして中沢氏は最後にこう結んでいる。

いったいなにが、私たちの世界で破壊されているのか。社会が破壊されている。生態圏が破壊されている。そして、社会と生態圏が結びついたところに形成されてきた「文明」が、破壊されているのである。
とりわけ日本文明は、西欧的な文明と違って、（人と人、人と自然の結びつきを重視する）キアスム（交差）構造を基礎として、生態圏との豊かな交通の上に成り立ってきた一種の「生態圏文明」である特質を備えている。その日本文明がいま、かつてないほどに深刻な危機に直面している。
津波と原発の事故は、私たちが抱え続けてきた大きな矛盾を、これ以上のものはないと思えるほど激烈なかたちで、白日のもとにさらした。日本文明はエネルゴロジー（Energology＝エネルギーの存在論：中沢氏の造語）的に破綻しかかっている。がんばればなんとかなるというレベルは、とうに超えてしまった。

個人のブログがどうにか出来る事ではないが、何か思い浮かんだらまた書きます。
